Great Mates

The early years of primary school are an important time for learning how to be a good friend and how to be a part of a group. During these years friendships go from being based on convenience and shared activities to being based on building lasting bonds. In order to form meaningful friendships, children need to possess the skills of empathy, turn taking, team work and many more. Some children need extra support to develop these skills.
Great Mates is a group fro children ages 6-8 who want to learn new skills for having friends.

Through the group children will:
– Learn how to make new friends
– Learn how to be a good listener|
– Learn how to work things out and compromise
– Learn how to keep your cool when things don’t go your way

The sessions will be one hour after school for six weeks. The group will be highly structured with 30 minutes for skills training and 30 minutes for practicing the skills through play.
The group will be led by two professionals from Queenstown Lakes Family Centre, at your child’s school.
Spaces are limited.
