Life Story Work

Life story work is extremely important for children who don’t live with their birth families. Children who are separated from birth parents need to understand why this has occurred and have the opportunity to explore and make sense of this. When children loose track of their past they may well find it difficult to develop emotionally and socially.

Life Story work involves gathering information about the child’s past and helping them accept and acknowledge what has happened to them. The work will involve making an age appropriate book for the child to keep. As the child gets older they will begin to ask more questions and may need further Life Story work to explore what they are discovering about their past.

– Individual sessions with the child
– A Life Story book for them to keep
– A memory box
– A memory book
– Play therapy

The needs of each individual child vary so at the referral stage we can identify the most appropriate work.
